I went to college back in the 90’s in Greeley, CO (The University of Northern Colorado). Coming from Los Angeles County (California), I was drawn to the rural/small town that Greeley was at the time. It’s funny where we end up in life…
I have always enjoyed the countryside and the back roads, seemingly to nowhere. When I would drive from Denver to Greeley, I always found my way meandering on these back roads up to Greeley. As memory would have it, my favorite backroad was between Highways 60 & 66 heading north or south on County Road 17 (CR 17). How it winds back and forth overlooking the river just north of Hwy 66 was always mesmerizing.
I had long forgotten about that road until we were looking to buy a home after our son was born in 2010. We were looking for a place between our offices in Greeley and Westminster and not too far from grandma & grandpa in Longmont. After an extensive search encompassing West Greeley, Windsor, Longmont, Mead and Erie, Johnstown became the place. And as fate would have it, one of the driving forces of picking our home in Pioneer Ridge was that feeling I got every time I drove CR 17 heading south from our new home (and north back home).
“Country Road, take me home, to the place, I belong…”
